Welcome to ElderFit
State-wide Fall Prevention Program
Craig DeBussey, PT, DPT, is one of 13 physical therapists who have volunteered to participate in a program designed to reduce falls among seniors in North Carolina. The program is being directed by several leading researchers from our state who specialize in fall prevention. Dr. DeBussey has also served on the NC Falls Prevention Coalition.
The focus of this latest project is to publicize the findings of research that has identified causes and treatments for falls by seniors. Once they have completed the "Master Trainer" program, the team of healthcare providers will then offer educational programs to networks of medical personnel and other groups who work with the elderly. If you know of a group or organization that may be interested in hosting one of these programs, or if you would like more information about this initiative, you may contact Dr. DeBussey at (919) 622-3558.
ElderFit now has a new rehab room at Emerald Pond Retirement Community in Durham. ElderFit first opened their clinic at this community in July of 2010. With the increase in the number of patients we've seen over past year we needed more room. We were fortunate to be able move to a bigger space, which we still share with HomeWatch Caregivers of the Triangle.
Our new clinic is still on the 3rd floor but is now located in apartment 340. With the addition of occupational therapy we now have three physical therapists and an occupational therapist who are seeing residents on a regular basis. Services provided at Emerald Pond now include skilled therapy, safety screens, and a balance class (offered twice a week). Medicare and private insurance will cover much of the cost of physical and occupational therapy. The safety screen and balance classes are offered to the residents at no cost.
For more information contact Craig DeBussey, PT, DPT, at (919) 622-3558.
About ElderFit
Many seniors would benefit from physical therapy services to help them regain and retain their functional independence and state of wellness. For those who do not meet the "homebound" criteria necessary for reimbursement of home care services, receiving skilled physical therapy can be difficult. Lack of transportation or the distractions and fast pace of an out-patient practice may prevent access to high quality, effective services.
Elderfit is a therapy practice developed to focus on the wellness and rehabilitation needs of seniors in Orange, Durham, Eastern Alamance, and Northern Chatam counties. We provide individualized skilled therapy services in your home that are reimbursable under Medicare Part B as long as they meet the necessary criteria.
In Home rehab is available throughout the country - for more information on locations outside North Carolina click here.
